Antique Turquoise Chunk Necklace with Jatals (Jaw-Claws), last pawned in 1953
This is a great old Santa Domingo made Turquoise Chunk Necklace probably made in the 1920's, then traded to the Navajo. It appears to be made with Cerritos Turquoise from New Mexico and has two sets of Jatal's on it. It had to be restrung as when I (John Hartman) purchased it from Francis Griswold, past owner of Fort Defiance Trading Post, it was very weak. It is an awesome necklace of unquestionable provenance. Has original Fort Defiance Pawn Ticket last pawned by David Dick on 9-29-53. Total length not incl. jatals 30" and the jatals hang approx. 7 1/2".
